Halloween Ghost Decoration. I have done the ghost in white with a black face. As A Halloween favorite, this ghost stands 3.5″ high and is 3″ wide. A cute Halloween ghost decoration for any collection.
Ghost stories have been around for a long time, with examples appearing in ancient Roman writings from the first century. In these stories, ghosts are often not harmful, but they do appear frequently. The hauntings are often attributed to the person not being properly buried and are also tied to respecting the dead.
History…
The Celts believed that the boundary between the living and the dead was at its thinnest on the 31st October. They thought that the spirits of the dead could roam amongst the living during this time. As a precaution, it was customary for Celts to leave food and drink on the doorstep as offerings to the “good” spirits.
Why are ghosts associated with Halloween?
The beginning of the cold and dark winter was associated with human death. The Celts believed that on Samhain the veil between the living and the dead was thin as the dark winter approached. For this reason, they believed that the spirits of the dead roamed the Earth the night of the festival.
